Nicole lives in Rochester, MN, which is Central Standard Time.

Artist and author Nicole Hanson empowers belivers to connect with God all throughout the day by using visual cues.

She is the author of 1 John: On Love, Obedience, and Side Effects of Salvation. This 23 day devotional includes 23 original watercolor line and wash paintings that become visual cues for the reader.

Nicole started blogging weekly devotionaly thoughts around 2014. Very soon, people began requesting that she write a devotional. Since she wrote these devotionals as reflections of her own quiet time, she did not have any ideas for a themed devotional and put the idea off.

In 2019, she began painting with watercolors after using pencil and acrylic most of her life. She loved the medium, and began taking commissions. These were very special projects for her, coming as requests from close friends and family. Customers began giving them as gifts, using them to decorate their homes and offices. Soon, Nicole decided to make her art more accessable by having prints made into cards and offered these to her email list. She liked the idea that now her hobby was funding itself.

The idea of writing a book continued nagging at her, so she gave it more thought and attention. By the end of 2020, she knew she wanted to write a devotional through 1 John. She began connecting Biblical ideas to paintings, so the images would serve as a visual cue, and thought others might benefit, too. Nicole knew she wanted her devotional to reflect this. She worked on it here and there, whenever she had time, but the bulk of work happened in the summer of 2022.

Nicole and her husband took the summer off and dove into their hobbies. With all day every day available, she dove into writing her book and painting the paintings, and within a month it was complete. She released it on Amazon, full of excitement.

She is writing other devotionals to follow the first, knowing that the visual cues will help Christians be intentional about connecting with God and growing their intimacy with Him. She also paints custom watercolors for Christians who want a customized cue to draw their attention back to God whenever they see their painting.
